In the small town of Vernon, Arizona, where I grew up, every student in our one-room schoolhouse played together during recess, in order to have a baseball team. We only had one teacher who taught first through eighth grades. My first grade class included myself and two other girls.
I have been at Lincoln Academy from the schools opening, and love the smaller school setting where everyone knows the teachers and students alike.
I have four wonderful married children, two grandchildren (so far), and a tremendously patient husband. Together we team-tag on many adventures. We love to work, play, worship, and learn together. We are seldom found being idle, as we love biking, kayaking, hiking, climbing…actually, almost anything that ends with the suffix “ing”. We have practically explored every nook and cranny in Utah, and have found it to be “the best place on earth” as far as we are concerned.
After attending Brigham Young University, I was happy to be at home with my children and work as a Graphic Artist from my kitchen studio. I loved being able to read to them daily; tales of fun and adventure, along with learning about people, places and things. Teaching my children to read before entering Kindergarten gave me experience to know that not every child learns to read using the same methodology. Each child has his/her own unique way of learning.
As the Reading Specialist at Lincoln Academy, I cherish the students I am here to coach and inspire. I have been trained from the Dyslexia Institute, Spalding: The Writing Road to Reading Method, and am familiar with the DIBELS Program. My goal will always be to continue to learn proven instruction to help the students at Lincoln Academy.
