Lincoln Academy’s Junior High English program produces consistently high standardized test scores partly due to a well thought out plan that builds from one grade to another. Using the 6-Traits of writing, our program has a strong focus on writing, including inter-curricular projects and experiential learning.

Students are taught the main genres of Narrative, Persuasive, and Expository. In addition to response, journaling, and prompt writing in class, students are expected to leave Lincoln with a sound understanding of organization, correct writing technique and writing fluency, preparing them for the rigors of High School. Interpretation of Literature is another focus where reading is expected in and outside of class. Understanding of the elements such as voice, plot, symbolism, figures of speech, and characterization are taught and practiced in the classroom.
